The project GRAPHITE deals with the recycling of waste graphite in the frame of circular economy, following sustainable and innovative methods. The main objective of the project is the development of energy efficient and environmental friendly technologies for competitive products in European level and globally, like as silicon carbide and graphene nanomaterials.

The project aims also at providing the model of circular economy to the business sector of Greece and especially to that of SMEs, by promoting the recycling and the exploitation of waste as secondary raw materials.

In addition, the project aims at creating a strong relationship between Greek Research Organizations / Universities and enterprises, especially those that are activating in high technology sectors, in order for the research and innovation to correspond to the real necessities of enterprises that will be beneficiated by the adoption of the research results. The project focuses also at improving the competitiveness, extraversion, quality and innovative nature of Greek enterprises, as well as the excellence of the Greek research organizations.

The project will be implemented at the region of Attika, with the cooperation between a SME and two of the larger research organizations of Greece, the National Technical University of Athens and the National Center of Scientific Research “Demokritos”. The participated SME is named CARBONTEC Ltd and is successfully activated for a lot of years in the sector of carbon and graphite products and components for specific applications. CARBONTEC Ltd is continuously developed and outward-looking, with important and big partners in Europe and USA, in high technology sectors. The enterprise involved in this project is strongly interested to enlarge its activities in the sector of non-metallic products with high added value.

For the successful completion of the project and the achievement of all its targets, a well-designed Work Plan with 5 Work Packages is provided. Each Partner of the Consortium will be involved in all the Work packages, contributing with expertize, knowledge, human resources and infrastructure.

The results of the project should be exploited by the SME participated, as well as by other SMEs in national and European level, increasing thus the competitiveness of the highly important sector of SMEs for the Greek and European economy and society. The exploitation of the project results will focus at the support of existing economic activities and the boosting for urgent ones.
